Entry: Jackalope
The legend of the jackalope is apparently pretty old, as this 16th century illustration, erm, illustrates. And here I thought it was a fabrication of the 19th century prairie imagination.
Have you heard of the Cavy? I posted it on my blog a while back, but I couldn't get pictures to work so I think everyone missed it. Anyway, it looks like a rabbit-antelope-lovechild, and, personally, I think it's where the idea came from, though I have no proof.
Like how narwhals and rhinos somehow became unicorns...
